Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant
About Us
Profitability Partners is a fractional CFO and accounting firm that helps small and mid-sized businesses build cleaner financials, stronger reporting, and better decision-making infrastructure. We work with growing companies that need reliable monthly close, accrual-based accounting, financial reporting, forecasting support, and strategic finance partnership.
We are looking for a strong accounting professional who can own full-cycle accrual accounting for multiple client accounts and help ensure our clients’ financial statements are accurate, timely, and useful for management decision-making.
Role Overview
The Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other core accounting processes for our clients.
This role is ideal for someone who understands the full accounting cycle, is comfortable working in QuickBooks Online and related systems, and can think beyond basic bookkeeping to ensure the financials are materially accurate on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities
Manage monthly close processes for multiple client accounts
Prepare and review accrual-based financial statements
Record and maintain journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, depreciation, payroll entries, and reclassifications
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, merchant processors, payroll liabilities, AR, AP, and other balance sheet accounts
Review P&L and balance sheet activity for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
Identify and correct accounting errors, misclassifications, and cutoff issues
Maintain supporting schedules for prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, fixed assets, deferred revenue, debt, and other key accounts
Assist with cash-to-accrual conversions and cleanup projects for new clients
Coordinate with client teams to obtain missing invoices, bills, statements, payroll reports, revenue data, and other required documentation
Support monthly financial reporting packages and management reporting deliverables
Communicate accounting questions, issues, and proposed adjustments clearly to internal CFO team members
Help improve accounting processes, close checklists, and internal workpaper standards
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably with small to mid-sized businesses
Strong understanding of accrual accounting and full-cycle month-end close
Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online required
Experience with tools such as Bill.com, Gusto, ADP, Shopify, Stripe, POS systems, or payroll platforms is a plus
Strong knowledge of balance sheet reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, deferred revenue, fixed assets, AP, AR, and revenue recognition basics
Ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and competing priorities
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify unusual trends or accounting issues
Comfortable working independently while escalating questions appropriately
Clear written communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is not just a data-entry bookkeeper. We are looking for someone who understands how accounting decisions affect the financial statements and can help produce clean, accurate, accrual-based monthly reporting.
You should be able to look at a balance sheet and know what needs to be reconciled, spot issues in a P&L, understand timing differences, and confidently explain why certain adjustments are needed.
What Success Looks Like
A successful person in this role will:
Close client books accurately and on time
Maintain clean, well-supported balance sheet accounts
Identify issues before financial statements are delivered
Understand the “why” behind accrual accounting adjustments
Communicate clearly with internal team members
Help clients move from messy books to reliable monthly financials
Support a high-quality finance function for growing businesses
